Once you have the bulk of the dust off use your rag to wipe each blade and remove any residual dust. Wear a dust mask and hairnet or cap when dusting underneath a ceiling fan to avoid inhaling dust particles. You may need to be elevated to reach the top of the fan blades if you re short have high ceilings or if the dusting attachment on your vacuum doesn t have a curved structure. Wipe the fan blades and base with a mild cleaner and a cloth.

Then as you pull the pillowcase off the blade wipe all the dust from the top so it falls into the pillowcase. For extremely dirty blades or kitchen fan blades that are caked with grease wipe with a damp cloth first to remove dust and dirt. All you need is an old pillowcase. It should clean off the loose dust.

Stand on a step stool or ladder to reach the fan blades. Slide a pillowcase over each fan blade individually and use your hands to press the fabric against the top and bottom of the blade. You can also use a 50 50 white vinegar and water mix. However like any appliance ceiling fans collect dust and grime that can lead.

If you can reach your ceiling fan blades safely with a ladder or step stool then this is an amazingly simple way to get the job done. Extend the vacuum handle to reach the fan. Stand slightly off to the side below the ceiling fan and hold the vacuum handle at arm s length. Try laying the fan flat on a sheet blades pointing up or down and pouring some clean dry sand or salt through the grills so that it brushes off the fan blades and then spills through to the sheet.

Step 2 wipe the fan mount and housing with a damp cleaning cloth or microfiber cloth to remove dust working from the ceiling down toward the blades. All the dusty gunk stays inside and all you have to do is shake out the pillowcase outside and toss it in the wash. Ceiling fans are a wonderful addition to any room offering a cool breeze and providing a pleasant decorative accent. Use extendable fan dusters to dust both sides of the blades as well as the base.

Then apply an all purpose cleaner or whatever cleaner is.
